Background

  • This project aims to monitor, water, and optimally illuminate up to two completely different plants, using the Arduino to automatically water and provide growth light to each plant.

  • Ideally this system is intended to be used on new seeds becoming young plants. Proper care is more important and intense during this baby phase. The gooseneck housing for the grow lights allow precise positioning for maximum light.

  • The “smart” feature allows the user to select different plants to be cared for. Some plants need 6-8 hours light, others need partial sun at 3-4 hours, and some thrive most with 2 hours of light. Also, some plants need more water than others, though having a regular water cycle is most important.

  • This idea came to me because I have a hard time growing plants and recently I've read into the benefits of growing plants; ranging from the actual 'fruits' of your labor, to the calmness of seeing it grow little by little. I have difficulty keeping them alive before they reach the stronger more adult phase. This is usually because of the watering. I also know that the west facing window doesn't provide enough light for the young plant, causing it to stretch toward the sun. I know I can't be the only one out there with these two specific troubles so that's what this project solves. This is here to help the people with "brown thumb" instead of "green thumb".

  • This lamp stand helps by showing the condition of the plant through lit up LEDs; while also being able to automatically water the plant when it needs water depending on what selection plant you choose; and finally, it will be loaded with grow light LEDs that are able to optimally grow your plant.
